Fire Safety Event

Each year The Home Depot puts on a Fire Safety Event as part of the monthly Kid's Workshop. October is National Fire Safety Month, and the event brings the topic of safety to the public. At the South County store, the event showcases Mehlville Fire, as well as St. Louis County Police, the American Red Cross, St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management, product vendors and more. It also includes a fire-themed, STEM based project for children as well as games and prizes.

Classroom Instruction

Training is the heart of public service radio. The role of public information officer could be filled by many volunteers with the right training. Courses include a segment on the role in basic classes as well as advanced training for those interested in the field.

Other course topics include what to know before your first emergency event and upgraded radio license instruction.

Workshop Coordinator

The Home Depot offers free weekly workshops to the community. This role includes finding and training qualified instructors, ensuring materials are available and even serving as the instructor for some classes.

Spirit of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo

Showcasing the science and technology of amateur radio, this booth provided visitors with the chance to use a radio for the first time.

Save-A-Lot Health Fair

Invited by the St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management, St. Louis Metro ARES brought a preparedness component to the event. Attendees were interested in preparing for severe weather and other natural disasters.
